Main characters:

Khip: background

Khip is the God of life and death or rebirth. Khip is short from Khepri or the Ancient Egyptian God Ra. A biological product of Aliens who planted these “Gods” on earth millions of years ago. He is the strongest of all the Gods present on earth. Despite having to live for millions of years on earth, his appearance is that of an adolescent boy, aged 16. In his early years (when man first appeared), Khip was like any young boy, going through the symptoms of adolescents; mood swings and conflicts within, searching for a unique identity. Being the more “immature” out of the other Gods, he was looked down at (sometimes due to jealousy and out of seniority ) and he began to develop hate. However, this was due to the lack in knowing what was right and wrong; typical of adolescence. He became fascinated with humans and their potential, so he play them and taught technology implanted in him by the creators (alien). One of his greatest work is the Ancient Egyptian civilization. One misconception about this is the fact that he was born as “Ra”, this is not true, his original name is only called out by other Gods as it is something humans can’t pronounce. Ra was given to him by the Egyptian people but due to his childish nature, they later named him Khepri. Over the millenia, he was later named Atum as he grew more matured. Still, he had an appetite for knowledge and creation so he left their civilization in search of newer ones. During his travel years, he met with other Gods. In doing so, he learned his true purpose; he is nothing but the creator’s tool designed to wipe out the world. However, this is a misconception as well as other Gods became vengeful of the creators and altered the story. The creator’s true purpose is legacy, as they are a dying race, their history must be continued and their solution were these Gods. Learning from their mistakes, they realized that there is a chaos limit that brought the end to their world, therefore a “restart/end” tool was the solution: Khip. His true purpose is to restart the world or destroy it. Being obsessed with this matter, he spiraled down the path to destruction influenced by some Gods. To achieve his goal, he required the help of humans, so he influenced people like Albert Einstein to build the “Atum” bomb or Atom bomb. Still, he witnessed humans resolve and fight in an endless cycles waiting for the “end”. Becoming more fustrated, he withdraw from humans and isolated himself and over the years he realized he was the bomb himself. In 2012, he began to initiate the restart sequence only to be stopped when he was hit by a car. After the accident, the girl in the car took him home. Khip has now lost memory of his goal: to destroy the world. So begins the main story.

Fighting is what she’s been doing her whole life, beating the odds, because of this most of her colleagues and friends despise her. No one knows where and when she was born, but we know everything from her first days in the orphanage. Other kids felt there was something different about her as well, it seemed like she never got hurt or rather she healed abnormally fast. Not only that, when ever it rained, other kids were frightened by her behavior when it rained as she would scream then faint. Nevertheless, by the age of 16 she barged her way into a modeling agency and demanded a job, because of her charisma and beauty, she climbed her way up fast. Ever since she was little, her goal was to become successful, yet she felt deep down it wasn’t her ultimate goal, it was as if she had forgotten something. The reason being, she too is a God, the so called Japanese Sun goddess “Amaterasu”. In the past, she came across Khip during World War 2 and so began their love. However, due to their conflicting ideas on the world Khip continued. With her strong personality, she continued to persuade Khip but this was further worsened when her brother “Sane” influenced Khip even more. As she tried, she was killed by her own brother however Khip being the God of rebirth gave her new life and left her at an orphanage.

Sane: background

Sane is Amara’s older brother. He too is a God. The ancient people of Japan named him “Sano’o” for his fierce yet cunning nature. He was the warrior who defeated the great serpent yet being mighty and strong did not make him the greatest of all the Gods. His fierce personality made humans fear him and other Gods as well. With his lack of morals, he did things his way even when humans are harmed. This was something his sister Amara could not accept which created many conflicts. Many of these problems escalated furthermore due to his alcoholism. He was also known as the storm of the summer for his fury.

After learning about the truth of his existence and Khip, his goal is to advance with the “End” plan. With his nature, war was the alternative so he influenced Japan’s action in joining World War 2. He then encountered Khip and influenced him to carry on with the plan, however with his sister in the way he killed her without any remorse. This resulted in Khip’s depressive state and strengthening his goal to wipe out the world, but he withdrew into solitude affected by Amara’s death. After the WW2, Sane continued his search to destroy the world.

Unique ability: manipulation of rain/storm/water

Act 1 Treatment

The story begins in a metropolis. One of the main characters, Amara wakes up early in her high rise apartment. She takes her time to get ready. Later, she drives to the modeling agency via her sports car. Once she arrives, she goes straight to work which is her photo shoot. However, after arguing with the photographer she leaves to her next work. So she drives to a fashion show that she must catwalk.

At the same time, the other main character, Khep is locked in a facility. After he finishes “meditading” he unlocks his cell door and walks out the building (disguised as a normal office building) with ease despite the soldiers who try to stop him.

Amara continues her catwalk. Later her assistant tells her that the producers and directors want to discuss deals with her about her upcoming movie in the next hour. Unfortunately, she is delayed when the press comes in to interview her. After the interview, she hurries to meet the appointment. Inevitably, she crashes into Khep who is initiating the “END” plan in the rain, right outside the facility he escaped from. She then takes him home out of curiosity over something he muttered before passing out.

ACT I Outline

Begins with Amara waking up in her room at around noon (at her expensive apartment) and goes to open the curtains. She gets ready to go to work which is modeling.

She drives an expensive car, and as she drives she ignores when people are calling her on her phone.

Once arriving at her work place, she goes straight to the changing room for her photoshoot. It takes a while for her to get ready as she instructs the hairstylist to change her hair several times in a calm manner, however becoming more inexpressively annoyed she does it herself.

She goes on and does her photoshoot only to argue some more with the photographer because he’s instructing her too much of her liking, so she walks off and asks her assistant what’s her next plan, the assistant tells her she’s got a fashion show to go to.

She drives to her next location: fashion show and ignores the hairstylist and makeup artists and does it all herself.

As the girls are lining up, Amara does not hesitate at all to walk to the front of the line and exchange kisses on the cheek with the designer who adores her.

(Amara’s scene crosscuts with Khep’s scene several times)

After she is done, her assistant who just arrived tell her the producer and director want to discuss deals on her upcoming movie in the next hour. However she is delayed when the designer brings in the press to interview her.

After the interview is done, she hurries to get to the producers even when it is raining.

Khep is locked in a facility (disguized as a normal office building) or rather he has locked himself (turned himself in). The facility is controlled by a secret organization which is later revealed in the story as an organization first started by another God who wishes to stop Khep from initiating the “END” plan.

Khep has somewhat finished meditating and is now ready to “END” the world.

He mentally unlocks the door, only to face more obstacles. Soldiers in black suits are ready with their guns and they fire without hesitation. However bullets do not come out.

Khep walks straight towards them and passes them as the soldiers fall down with blood dripping out of their eyes.

When he reaches the exit or entrance of the actual building, another figure appears from the shadow behind Khip several meters away.

The man is actually a God who started this organization and tells Khip he shouldn’t continue the plan, however he does not do anything as he explains more that destiny will walk its path.

Khip ignores him and blows up the glass doors, then walks into the street.

While it is raining, he begins the initiation process in the middle of the street

Meanwhile Amara is driving fast and hits him just before Khip is about to “END”

Pissed off, she hesitates about going out because of the rain so she pulls out her jacket and goes to the front to check and finds out it is a young boy who is glowing, however the light is fading away.

Forgetting about her appointment, she checks on the kid, not willing to help until he mutters “Amaterasu” that struck Amara’s chord, so she takes him with her and returns home.

ACT II Outline

Amara brings Khep who is unconscious back to her apartment (giving him piggyback ride) and puts him on the couch in the lounge.

After putting him down, she looks at the clock for the first time which reads 3am and realizes that she had missed her appointment with the directors and producers. Still, she starts to change his wet clothes

Aggravated by what had just happened, she goes to her mini bar and drinks 3 vodka shots, then mutters to herself, “I hate the rain”

Still in wet clothes she walks straight to her bedroom while drinking vodka from the bottle and falls asleep on one side of a circle bed.

In the morning she wakes up (almost hungover) because she can hear someone watching TV (turns out to be Khep)

She staggers her way to the living room and finds Khep watching TV on the couch. Confused at first, she remembered what happened last night and sits on another couch next to his.

She looks at the TV which shows a program about the chaos theory and the buttery fly effect then tells Khep she will take him to the police station

They start talking, exchange names and Khep refuses to go at first (arguing like a teenager) but he listens to her.

As they both get up, Amara realizes he is the same height as her (175cm)

To get to their destination, she decides to drive her car as it is the quickest option, however Khep tells her he would prefer to walk so they do.

While walking to the police station, Khep takes notice of the pretty/beautiful girls who walk by and asks Amara if they were her friends, She tells him that they could be hookers or maids, don’t socialize with people like that, if you want to see good looking girls then come to where I work

Amara then starts to smoke her cigarettes, Khep asks if he could try one but she doesn’t give him one saying he’s too young even though he retorts back saying “I’m just as tall as you”. So she gives him her lighter instead

While at a junction/zebra cross, Khep uses his lighter to pop a kid’s balloon before the red light turned green.

On the way they pass a middle class shopping mall, Khep sneaks in without Amara noticing, but after a few seconds she realizes and stops to think. She tells her self she doesn’t care. After walking 3 steps, she gets annoyed and turns back into the mall to find Khep.

She notices Khep is standing infront of a shop and walks to him as he walks in the shop.

Upon arriving, she realizes it is a toy/model shop and finds Khep looking at the hundreds of selections in the store. They come across a a model of a butterfly and Khep makes a remark. A few seconds later, an old shop owner tells them they should buy something or get out.

Before leaving the shop, Khep steals a box of lego

While walking, Amara tells Khep she can take him to a better mall

Arriving at the police station, Amara is ignored by the older police officers. She looks at her watch and realizes she is late for her photoshoot so she tells Khep to wait until a police helps him out.

She then leaves and takes the taxi to the agency.

Arriving at the agency, several people ask her what happened last night, she gives them a short excuse and walks to the studio for her shoot

The makeup artist and hair stylists begin to work on her, however Amara doesn’t say anything as she ponders on what happened last night. While taking photos she doesn’t say anything either.

After the shoot, she leaves to the lounge area to relax and finds Khep waiting for her.

She complains and is confused about how he is here and they start to talk. Khep then explains to her how he got here.

As they leave, other models take notice of Khep but Amara pulls him along.

Still in the agency (part of a fashion magazine company) building, they past a room dealing with interior design. What caught Khep’s attention was the two women inside doing the japanese flower arranging. So he pulls Amara inside to try it out

She refuses to do it at first but then gives in. Khep and the other women praise her as she has made something very professional (much like a hidden talent)

They then leave and catch the taxi home.

Arriving at the apartment, it is late so she tells Khep he can stay here for another night. He sleeps on the same couch and she retreats to her bedroom.

Next morning, she wakes up again due to the sound of the TV and figures it is Khep.

She walks to the living room and sees Khep building legos on the table. She praises him as well for the complexity of the structure.

Realizing again she is late for work, she puts money on the table, tells him to stay in the apartment and order food himself and runs out the door.

Arriving at the agency, her assistant comes up to her to tell Amara her schedual. Amara then apologizes for being a B*&@$^. She then goes to huge wardrobe with her stylist to pick out clothes for the upcoming fashion show in Paris.

Upon seeing the dresses, the themes dealt with butterflies. For the first time she lets the stylist pick all her clothes.

After, her work is done so she decides to leave. Outside the building, Khep is waiting for her. She complains again, but then decides to take him to a classy shopping mall to eat.

While sitting at the restaurant, she orders wine, Khep wants one too but she doesn’t let the waiter serve it.

She then comments on walking shoppers about how fake they are, pretending to be some important person (they’re wearing fake clothes).

Before they leave, Khep steals a bottle of wine this time.

Again he chooses to walk.

While crossing the bridge over a river, Khep decides to stop in the middle, pulling out the bottle of wine. Amara gets annoyed but then lets it go and starts to drink with him. She shares a kiss with him then falls asleep.

Next morning she wakes up and walks to the window. Even though she has work today (meeting the director and producer), she feels like it is something unimportant as she looks at the clock and looks out the window again.

Then it started to rain, so she walked to the living instead to check on Khep. He too was starring at the window.

Khep turns to Amara, and tells her to stay back. Later the window bursts and shatters and a man appears.

The man (Sane) walks to Khep who is now on the floor and begins to talk in their language. Then he puts his hand over Kheps face.

Just then, the apartment door explodes and several soldiers rush in and start to shoot the man. Another man walks in (another God) and and exchanges look with Sane.

Sane laughs and remarks “At least he remembers now” then leaves out the window. The rain then disappears.

ACT III

•	Shortly after, Khep wakes up to find the old man and Amara in the same room. (The soldiers are outside)

Amara realizes Khep has a new attitude which is much colder and serious than before. She panicks and demands to know what is going on.

Khep finds a gun on the table then shoots Amara in the chest and waits.

Amara hyperventilates expecting to die, at the same time Khep stands and stares at her.

She then calms down (doesn’t die) and right after, the old man begins to explain to her who she really is and what is going on.

She looks at Khep however, he ignores her and walks to the broken windows (large windows, from floor to ceiling) and saids “There is a begining, middle and now the End” He then jumps out.

Amara rushes to the window looking over the city skyline seeing no traces of Khep and rushes back to the old man demanding he’d take her to Khep; he does.

She then arrives on top of a skyscraper seeing Khep on his knees glowing with circle energy bubbling from him. She notices Sane as well with other Gods who want to continue the End plan surrounding Khep in a circle.

She runs to the circle, as she does, one of the Gods stabs her with his bare hands, but because she is able to heal she cuts his head of with her bare hands.

As she gets closer to Khep, Sane interrupts but fights Khep instead. It is a pointless fight as both Gods can’t kill each other.

Sane walks around furious, and forces Khep to END

Amara is now with Khep. He tells again, there is a beginning, middle and end but there is no limit to starting again.

He then blows up, with lights and everything goes white.

Not actual format, it messed up when I paste it on here.

Death by Apple

Screenplay

Scene begins in a diner with a businessman reading a newspaper. Sam Low walks in and sits across the man.

The man is not surprised. He closes his newspaper and looks at Sam inexpressively.

The man:

I don’t think I know you

Sam chuckles, taps his fingers on the table like waves.

Sam:

(Talks casually and sly) What are you waiting for? Are you waiting for Godot? Because I’m certain he’s not waiting for you. Do you know why? It’s because you’re stuck in a circle following this trivial notion called faith. Take a better look at the world outside.

Insert – series of clips, metaphors for 7 deadly sins while Sam says the following virtues:

Sam (cont’d)

Chastity? patience? diligence? kindness? humility? temperence? charity? It’s unfortunate that you don’t understand and it’s funny that we’re both salesman.

The man begins to eat sliced apples from the plate, leaving the skin, while Sam says the following:

Sam (cont’d)

However, we’re slightly different, you’ve simply stayed in the jungle too long. Furthermore, you just sell while I…

Sam becomes angered, slamming his right hand on the table then gripping onto a fork.

Sam (cont’d)

(Grunts, tone becomes more serious) You still eat the apples and throw away the peels.

Pauses and moves in with elbows on the table with hands together like holding a fist.

Sam (cont’d)

This city is wild and too corrupted to the core with all these deceitful pigs in leather. It’s ironic how they pretend the crucifix bestowed their successes upon them. For the weak lambs, the meat grinder is inescapable. It is the law of the jungle. It’s pitiful to think I was naïve enough to step in the grinder.

Sam slams the fork onto the man’s right hand.

Sam (cont’d)

I’m the sales man and I’m vital to sales.

Sam takes out a gun inside his suit with his left hand and shoots the man, remorselessness. Wipes the blood on his face with tissue and walks out.

Things to remember to comment on – religion and capitalistic world

Influences – Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller and Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett (ironic because my main character’s name is Sam

I’ve managed to find a site with popular quotes from Death of a Salesman, which i will integrate into my play (Quotes in blue are the ones I like)

Another thing is, in relation to religion, I commented on the actual world we live in, REALITY. I did this by saying the 7 virtues, but instead of showing these things in the film, I will be showing metaphors of the 7 deadly sins instead.

Lust:chastity – brothel, prostitutes

Wrath:patience (anger) street protesters vs police

Sloth:diligence – homeless people , beggers

Envy:kindness – Iraq oil fields on fire

Pride:humility – Hitler, US invasion of Iraq? North korea’s army

Gluttony:temperance - Fat people eating, skinny African kids

Greed:charity – shopping, poor people, shanty towns (maybe death)

Lastly, this whole idea about commenting on religion, and why we don’t need God but ourselves to survive in this tough world was influenced from Kurosawa’s Ran movie. So I’ve decided to show this nihilistic concept “Death of God” , not sure which part of the movie yet. To pay homage to Kurosawa, Death of God will be in Japanese

神の死 - death of god

Lastly, Sam’s ending speech in the screenplay is taken from the story’s first speech, but I simplified it a bit.

“This city is wild. It is a city that hosts the millions of savages looking to rise to the top. These deceitful animals in black suits with their leather suitcases are just in it for the profit. There’s just too many that this city is corrupted to the roots and it rots deep. It’s ironic how they still think they are living things and pretend their successes was bestowed to them by the crucifix. For the weak lambs, the meat grinder is their final destination; it is the law of the jungle. It’s pitiful to think I was naïve enough to step in the grinder.

There is no salvation but starting new.”

New speech –

“This city is wild. It is a city that hosts the millions of savages looking to rise to the top. These deceitful animals in black suits with their leather suitcases are just in it for the profit. There’s just too many that this city is corrupted to the roots and it rots deep. It’s ironic how they still think they are living things and pretend their successes was bestowed to them by the crucifix. For the weak lambs, the meat grinder is their final destination; it is the law of the jungle. It’s pitiful to think I was naïve enough to step in the grinder.

There is no salvation but starting new.”

………………………..

Sam Low was born adept but grew up oblivious to the potential that slept in him. At school, math or science wasn’t on his favorites list, however art was his reflection. To others, they knew the capabilities of his dexterity and the thoughts that he conveyed. Unfortunately, he neglected positivity and his potential slept deeper. His mother, a successful entrepreneur and father, a child of God raised him a little different from the other kids in the neighborhood. They fed him only goals and hope. Throughout his school years, Sam excelled in all his classes despite his subject preferences. Odd enough, he turned out normal and ambitious, being popular since 1st grade. For his senior year, they even voted him “Most likely to succeed”. It was insignificant to him, yet he accepted it and moved on with his life.

Sever years on.

Sam Low has now climbed Everest for the average worker his age. In such short years, he has reached the fifth highest position in a domineering sales company. This maybe due to a few factors, the obvious one being his strong work ethic (imagine Donald Trump), second being his determination disciplined by his mother and third being his undying faith in all matters indoctrinated by his father. In spite of that, December 7th knew no distinctions between men; he was neither better nor worse than others of his kind.

The seventh came.

After years of dedication, commitment, self-sacrifice, blood, sweat and tears, Sam did not know it was all being funneled into the grinder. He was a victim himself due partially to his ignorance. A letter arrived on his table. He opened it and assimilated the disappointment obliged upon him in the form of words. It was short but sufficient.

“We regret to inform you that you’re employment with Testament Inc. has been terminated.”

Sincerely,

Company Seniorities

His veins dilated and blood rushed to his head. Along with it came immense pressure that amassed not only in his physical state, but also mentally in his libido. It was as if he was strapped onto an electrical chair, unable to move, unaware and half way to the underworld. Anger, enraged or even psychotic could not suffice in describing what he felt at that moment, though it was at that moment his potential-locked manacles were vaporized. Quite abruptly, this outburst within him ended like a lifeline on the computer screen. Paradoxical as it is, he was destroyed but destruction is a form of creation giving room for innovation and new life. Later, He walked out of the office and out of the building.

Seven months on.

Sam Low prowls through the train platform in his pointy leather shoes, black shades, black suit, black hat with his hands in his pockets. He steps on a train due to leave in five minutes with every motivation there is to gather and a preordained purpose. The sound of the train signals the journey and Sam walks down the isle to the section where men of corporations smoke their cigars. To his disappointment, only one man was there but was the one he wanted to see. This man was in his sixties, overweight and reading a newspaper. Sam walked to the table and sat opposite him with a smirk on his face. The man closed his newspaper and spoke informally, “I don’t think I know you.” Sam chortled back and tapped his fingers like waves on the table, stopping before he replied slyly “What are you waiting for? Are you waiting for Godot? Because I’m certain he’s not waiting for you.” He dragged the man’s plate with bread in front of him and began putting apple jam on it with a knife. While doing so, he continued to speak sophisticatedly in a fidgety way; it was quite impudent. The man sat cold, not in fear but poker-faced and took out a pen and started to write, mockingly disregarding Sam.

Unexpectedly, Sam chortled once more and remarked, “It’s funny how you think you can just eat the apple and throw away the red peels.” The man noticed a sudden change of mood and his frigid silence was cracked. Sam continued but spoke seriously, “This city is wild…It’s pitiful to think I was naïve enough to step in the grinder.” Similar to human reflex, he slammed the knife into the man’s hand, taking pleasure inexpressively watching him scream like a pig. He remarked again, “There is no salvation but starting new.” He reached into his jacket gracefully and shot the man one time.

Sam felt satisfied in that split second. He pulled a few tissues, wiped the blood off his face gently, stood up and walked beside the dead man. Just as preordained as stepping on the train, he places an apple on a plate in front of the man, pats him on the shoulders and uttered, “Good thing you don’t know me, otherwise I’ll be seeing you again.” He chortled for the last time and casually walks back up the isle to the bourgeois section where he rests until his next stop.

Number 7 Symbolism

In my story, I’ve made reference to the number 7 alot.

E.g. When moving through time, Sam Low as a kid, then Sam Low as a businessman, I’ve used 7 years on

The reason being, number 7 is symbolic for Luckiness. However is luck involved? This idea branches off and connects with other themes like fate and destiny.

APPLE symbolism

As simple as it is, apple is symbolic to sin. It is the forbidden fruit. It represents the fall of man.

In my story, the businessman is having bread and apple jam for breakfast.

The Businessman symbolism

He only says one line “I don’t think I know you” and that’s it, doesn’t say anything else. Stereotypical of business people in the sense that, they don’t care about other people other than themselves, they focus only on profit.

Main Character name: Tom Low

I’ve decided I want to change the name Tom to something else. Since I was already looking into religion, God and so on, I looked at the main Angels in Christianity; Gabriel, Michael, Raphael, Uriel

They are the messengers of God. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel)

Gabriel – I thought this Angel was too normal, the main hero type, nothing interesting

Michael – This angel is the warrior type, the justice, patron of Chivalry. At first i chose this name because it matched with the main character in my story.

Raphael – The healer. I’m going to ignore this one.

Uriel – Again a little too normal. Nothing interesting.

Like I’ve mentioned early, I picked Michael, because it was the most suitable for the main character. However, after getting carried away on Wikipedia looking through more history about angels I came across another important Archangel called Samael.

Samael – What I liked about this angel was the description on wikipedia it gave (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samael). He is the accuser, seducer, and destroyer and has been regarded as both GOOD and EVIL <—– this factor I like a lot, gives possibilities to internal conflicts. He is also the angel of death (fits my main character as a mercenary). Despite being “bad”, he is still the servant of the Lord. GREAT, reflects my main character

So Samael or shortened to Sam is the name I’ve chosen —–> Sam Low
